Thank a Plugin Developer Day

WordPress by itself is very simple — what makes it compelling for most of its users is the wide array of plugins (and themes) available for WP. The average WordPress blog has about 5 plugins installed! Today we just passed 4,000 plugins available in our plugin directory. (Which is also embedded into everyone’s WordPress 2.7 or above.)

I declare January 28th our official “Thank a Plugin Developer” day. To celebrate take a look at the plugins you use and love, visit the author’s site, find their contact form, and drop them a note thanking them. (Or Paypal!) Look for the links in the plugin directory to “author homepage” and also to donate directly if they’ve specified a Paypal address.

Thank you to everyone who has ever written a plugin for WordPress, and here’s to the next four thousand. :)

Hooray for Flying Pizza Kitty

Flying Pizza Kitty is a website with interesting animated comic strips and little time killer online games. The graphics are low quality and old school but that just seems to make the concept of this pizza flinging kitty more fun and amusing.

Cool Graffiti in Left 4 Dead

I Miss The Internet

This message was spotted written on a blackboard in the zombie survival game, Left 4 Dead. Losing the Internet is just one of many unhappy things that would happen if there was a real zombie uprising. (via Offworld)

Diary Queen Game Lets You Mange the Store

DQ Tycoon

The New York Times reports that Dairy Queen has launched a game called DQ Tycoon that lets you run a DQ store.

Now, a new game created with the help of Dairy Queen, DQ Tycoon, lets players run their own fast-food franchise.

“Oh, come on, who hasn’t wanted to run and own a DQ?” Michael Keller, the chief brand officer of Dairy Queen International, said. “Maybe everybody doesn’t, but so many Americans have grown up with the DQ brand, and have had that experience of stepping up to a DQ window on a hot summer day.”

DQ Tycoon is a time-management game, one of a genre of anxiety-inducing games requiring players to race against the clock to complete mundane tasks - in this case, preparing Peanut Buster Parfaits, taking orders, restocking the refrigerator, and dipping cones.

We aren’t sure DQ really needs a game to convince kids to want ice cream. If they really wanted to use a game to brand their store they should have given it away completely for free. Instead the game costs $19.99 to be downloaded from BigFishGames.com. You can play the game free for one hour.
