New Okami Is Coming To The Nintendo DS [Capcom]

Those hoping for a hi-res, hi-def sequel of the PS2 classic Okami, keep hoping. Capcom is making a new Okami, but for the DS.

As predicted by 7-Eleven, your source for Japanese game news leaks, the new issue of Famitsu does feature an article on a new Okami game called Okamiden. That’s a snapshot of the article, right there.

Earlier this month, a mysterious (well, now less mysterious) Capcom trademark for “Okamiden” surfaced.

Okami was developed by Capcom subsidiary Clover Studios, which has since been dissolved. The lead designer and producer founded Platinum Games and are now putting the finishing touches on Bayonetta.

The one player adventure game is scheduled for 2010.

Thanks Amy for the tip!

The King of Fighters XII Patched Up For PS3 [Snk]

A patch, a patch, The King of Fighters XII has gotten a new online patch for the PS3 version.

The patch fixes in-game issues such as buggy character combos and optimizes online matches. This update fundamentally changes the way game data is processed and synchronized during online matches, placing greater importance on the game’s response time and allowing for much smoother play,” states SNK Playmore.

“It also prevents the player from experiencing slowdown during an online match when connections are less than optimal.”

Other issues that are rectified include the in-game antenna icon displayed during online battles and chat capability restrictions.

An update for the Xbox 360 version will be available “very soon”.

Queen Strutting Onto Rock Band [Rock Band]

My only main concern with SingStar: Queen was, well, the fact it just made me want to play the songs in Rock Band instead. Something I’ll soon be able to do!

A “competitive analysis” chart obtained by Wired - drawn up to show how Harmonix’s Rock Band offerings compare to Guitar Hero’s - has revealed that along with the two Queen songs included in LEGO Rock Band, there’ll be another ten Queen songs coming as downloadable content next month (only one, “Under Pressure”, has been named”).

That leaves nine chances for one of them to be Princes of the Universe.

Two New DSi Colors For America [DSI]

There are already two DSi colors in American: blue and black. Compare that to Japan, where there are five DSi colors.

While Pink and White DSis are already available in Japan (along with Black, Lime Green and Metallic Blue!), the colors have not been sold in the States. Nintendo of America has announced White and Pink will go on sale in the US starting September 13.

Both are priced at US$169.99 each. Oh, and we told you so.

America Gets Black Wii Controller, New Bundle, No Console [Breaking]

The black Wii console launched in Japan on August 1, complete with black Wiimote, Nunchaku and Classic Controller. If you wanted Wii MotionPlus, that’s only in one color: White.

This holiday season, Nintendo is bringing black Wii peripherals to America, but hasn’t yet announced a new black console. There’s also a new bundle: the black Wii Remote is available with a black version of the Wii MotionPlus accessory included. Pricing is still TBA.

A black Nunchaku rounds out the color coordination. All that is missing is a console.

A Snapshot Of The World’s PC Gaming Rigs [PC]

I just logged into my Steam account, and was asked to take part in a hardware survey. You all know what that means. It means it’s time to take a look at Valve’s latest hardware survey results!

Released periodically over Valve’s online marketplace and gaming service, the immense popularity of Steam means these figures (the results of which are gathered from millions of users across the world) give us the best idea possible of just what makes up the “average” setup for the “average” PC gamer out there.

Here are the July 2009 results. To see them in more detail, hit the link below.

Square Enix Considering Final Fantasy XIII DLC [FFXIII]

The worst kind of DLC is stuff that should be in the game, but isn’t. The best DLC adds to the game experience.

Square Enix is currently churning over the idea of including DLC for upcoming role-playing-game Final Fantasy XIII. Says FFXIII producer Yoshinori Kitase, “Our plans for [Xbox Live and PlayStation Network] are currently unclear.”

“We are exploring the option of downloadable content, perhaps adding new areas, items or enemies,” the producer added, “but these would not be expansions to the story, only the gameplay. The entire story of FFXIII will be on the disc.” As it should be!

PS3 Firmware 3.0 Is Live [Sony]

The new firmware update has it, bringing new XMB functionality, a status indicator, a friends list redesign, dynamic themes, avatars, and much more.

Free and premium avatars show up in your status bar, but the most prevalent of the changes is a status bar in the top right of the screen, which shows your avatar, your user icon, what you are up to, and a mail icon, in case you have messages waiting. Messages from your friends now appearing in their respective profiles.

The games and video categories of the cross media bar will now feature shortcuts to the PlayStation Store, reflecting downloadable content and related items available.

Firmware 3.0 is supposedly the last major PS3 firmware update this year.

What Series Will Sony Re-Release On Blu-Ray Next? [Let's Fantasy]

On the one hand, Sony’s decision to re-release God of War 1 & 2 on Blu-Ray seems selfish. A chance to force many people to re-purchase a game they already own. But on the other, it sets an interesting precedent.

After all, it’s not like the set is being released out of the blue. There’s a new God of War game coming, and what better way to drum up (or dredge up) interest than to get people playing, and talking about, the first two games again?

So it got us thinking: since this is as much a marketing move as it is a service to fans, what other upcoming PS3 games are there to market that have PS2 prequels you can repackage on Blu-Ray?

These (for GT5, FFXIII and The Last Guardian) are the obvious ones. But moving beyond the marketing side of things, are there any other series you’d like to see thrown together on a single disc, cleaned up to 720p and given a second chance on the shelf?
